A Capital Idea.

Do you capitalize the G in God? As you can probably tell from my previous sentence, I do. I think I’m in the infidel minority on this one.  Let me explain.

“God” usually refers to a particular god, in my case, the Christian God. “God” has become the de facto name for Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah, or even Jesus in many cases; so, like I do with all proper names, I capitalize the first letter. If I didn’t, I’d be giving up grammar in favor of passive aggression.

Think of “God” as “Mom” or “Dad.” If you capitalize the “M” and “D” you should probably capitalize the “G.” If it's not his name, it's certainly his title. I understand the case may be made that we don’t capitalize the “M” and “D” of other people’s parents and we don’t consider the Christian God our god...but whoever I’m debating against probably thinks we are all God’s children so whatever. I figure I’m about to insult their imaginary friend enough without hitting below the meanline.
