"The first is running away". .... or sticking their fingers in the ears, and shouting "I can't hear you!", and going on believing what they believe, despite all the evidence.
I think apologetics work best when you don't know them, but you know of them. "oh yes, I've heard that objection, the biblical scholars have an answer for it"
They almost never come to their rebuttals organically. They are faced with a secular argument, then they Google a rationalization around it. It's like arguing with a call tree.
Running away, or the other classic, just repeating your claim over and over and over and over because you can't imagine that anything that supports your religious beliefs could possibly be wrong. Same effect.
Apologetics are the result of Christianity's loss of power. They're not allowed to burn heretics anymore so they're reduced to selling their faith to heretics

ReplyDeleteThis sums it up perfectly, its not just a matter of not knowing but rather knowing of it. Pretty much like only knowing some verses in the Bible.

ReplyDeleteSort of how I feel when I walk onto a car lot and the salesman starts walking toward me.
If at first you don't succeed, fail and fail again.
